Dr. James M. Jonza

For three decades, Dr. Jonza has improved lives by pioneering technology advancements in films. He has developed safety window films that protect homes and families from break-ins and impact events as well as display & window films that save energy. He’s even worked to develop films that serve to deter counterfeiters and was invited by the National Academy of Sciences to serve as a consultant for new security features for U.S. currency! Dr. Jonza is currently leading new technology development programs on lightweight, stiff and strong materials in the 3M Corporate Research Process Laboratory.
James is a true inventor at heart – he holds over 50 U.S. patents, with more than 15 pending, and has authored 11 publications. He has received numerous awards from 3M, including five Genesis Grants for promising research ideas and in 2009, he was inducted into 3M’s Hall of Fame, the Carlton Society, which honors outstanding technical employees at 3M.
James completed his undergraduate studies in environmental and polymer chemistry at the State University of New York College of Environmental Sciences and Forestry and received his Ph.D. in polymer science and engineering from the University of Massachusetts.
