Dr. Caroline Ylitalo

Meet Dr. Caroline Ylitalo. Dr. Ylitalo is a Division Scientist in the Personal Safety division Lab at 3M Company.

She joined 3M in 1992 after obtaining a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University. Throughout her career, she has focused on developing new technologies that can be used across multiple 3M businesses including printing inks, graphics films, wound dressings, and personal protection products.

She has over 100 issued and pending patents and 22 journal publications. She is the co-founder of the Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge, served five years on the 3M Foundation advisory board and is a board member of the Twin Cities Regional Science Fair.

Her many volunteering and mentoring accomplishments both inside and outside 3M have been recognized with multiple awards including the 3Mgives Volunteer award, the Society of Women Engineers Spark award and the American Chemical Society award for encouraging women into careers in the chemical sciences.
