Meet the Judge:
Brian Butler
National Science Teaching Association District Director
Mr. Butler is the current National Science Teaching Association District Director representing the science teachers of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. Mr. Butler is presently serving as the Bibb County (GA) School Improvement Coordinator for Science. Prior to his current role, Brian was an eighth grade middle school science teacher and a high school science teacher of various subjects with a soft spot for Physics and Physical Science in Macon, Georgia.
Mr. Butler craves opportunities to work towards all students having the chance to participate in authentic scientific experiences in their classrooms and strives for all students to become scientifically literate citizens. This passion for students has been recognized and Mr. Butler was a finalist for the 2016 Georgia Teacher of the Year and has served as President of the Georgia Science Teachers Association.
Originally from Virginia, Brian holds a specialist degree as well as an MAT degree from Georgia College and a B.S. in meteorology from the University of Oklahoma where his love for science was enhanced by the ability to chase tornadoes!
