Cognitive Emotion Interpretation Application (CEIA)

About the Idea

Meet Veda. Veda developed the Cognitive Emotion Interpretation Application (CEIA) that helps teachers and caregivers interpret the emotions an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) child is expressing.

Why did you enter the 3M Young Scientist Challenge?

During the past year, the whole student community shifted to online learning. It was difficult both for teachers and students to communicate and understand each other, and I was curious to find out how children with ASD would cope with this.

What is your favorite invention of the last 100 years, and why?

The use of AI, and my favorite is its applications in the medical field to predict, prevent, and diagnose different diseases, as well as assist in surgical procedures. When I was looking into my solution, I was fascinated to find that AI models can be used as a powerful tool to understand and interpret human emotions.

In 15 years I hope to be...

an epidemiologist so that I can make a significant impact on society and shape the medical field for the better. As we have seen in the past year, epidemiologists are at the frontline of predicting the outbreak of major pandemics, and help mobilize agencies, healthcare professionals, and pharmaceutical industries to prevent outbreaks.

Don’t be fearful of exploring and pushing your boundaries for a good cause.
