Moitri - How It All Started

Hi there, fellow STEMists!

My name is Moitri Santra and I am an incoming 8th grade student at Jackson Heights Middle School in Oviedo, Florida. I am so excited to be a top 10 finalist for the 2021 3M Young Scientist Challenge, and I cannot wait to share my summer mentorship journey with you!

In winter break of 2018, my family and I visited Costa Rica. I was very excited to explore the different environment, traditions, and foods that were a part of this country. Little did I know, I would also end up encountering a huge, worldwide, soon-to-be science fair problem first-hand.

I applied for the 3M Young Science Challenge last year and did not make it as a state merit winner or the top 10 - which just motivated me even more to give it another shot this year! Upon hearing about the open entry period, I immediately began working on my submission.

In the video below, I talk about the inspiration for my project, creating my entry video for the challenge, and more!

I want to also thank 3M and Discovery Education for sponsoring this event and giving me the incredible opportunity to start working with my mentor, Dr. Kannan Seshadri, present my project at the final event in October, and meet the other finalists!

See you next time!

Moitri
