Maanasa Mendu -Week 2!!!
Hello fellow science enthusiasts,
I can’t believe it’s the second week already! Time flies when you are having fun. This week, I’ve made substantial progress narrowing down the problem and concentrating on specific ideas.
At age 9, I read a book, which discussed the ongoing water crisis in Sudan. I became fascinated with the science behind the issue, spending weeks creating designs for the ultimate water purification device. I have yet to realize the dream, but I am confident that it will happen!
As you can see, I am the kind of person who is captivated with any compelling issue and researching any topic can take hours on end. With the abundance of problems alarming our world, selecting the “final three” has been a challenging hurdle.
After making several observations, and connecting worldwide problems with personal experiences; the problems with the largest impact and feasibility of solution were chosen.
Last year in India, I observed the huge power outages affecting millions every year. For us, this meant no air conditioning, but many people permanently lack access to the resources we take for granted. The development of an offsite stable power source is essential.
Currently, most renewable sources of energy are highly expensive and unpredictable. Developing a cost effective and portable solution will surely be a challenging task. I am sure I can tackle any obstacle, armed with determination, the scientific process, and a superb mentor.
While browsing through 3M’s expansive assortment of products, I started to wonder what motivates these 3M scientists to create ingenious products. I believe their passion for science and determination to make a difference in our world sets them apart.
