About their Project

Medical billing errors affect over 80% of patients, often adding thousands in unexpected costs. VeriCare is an AI-powered tool designed to help you fight back. Just upload your itemized bill, and VeriCare will scan for common mistakes, compare charges to fair market prices based on your location, and calculate how much you may have been overcharged. It even drafts a professional email you can send directly to the hospital’s billing department.

No more confusion or stress — VeriCare makes it easy to understand your bill, save money, and take control of your healthcare costs. We’re currently finalizing development and working with trusted data sources to ensure accuracy. In the future, we plan to connect users with advocacy groups, rate providers, and expand our tools to support even more patients.

What was the inspiration behind your project?

A few years ago, my grandfather was struggling with his health and went to the hospital. After he was released, he received a bill that was much higher than he expected and, as a senior citizen, he didn’t have the knowledge nor the energy to look through the bill for errors, which put him under a lot of stress. Luckily, my mom, who is a doctor, looked through the bill and found many areas where he was clearly overcharged.

However, many other patients who do not have anyone with knowledge in the field should not have to suffer because of it. I am hoping to use my expertise in AI along with my passion for making our community a better place to help save money and prevent stress for patients who are unable to identify billing errors on their own.
