Revolutionary Next Generation Blood Storage Bags
About the Idea
Meet Abhinav. Abhinav developed a way to extend the safety and shelf-life of blood products with Nitric Oxide producing Polyurethane bag.
Why did you enter the 3M Young Scientist Challenge?
The 3M Young Scientist Challenge will give me an opportunity to work with a 3M Mentor, an opportunity to meet with like-minded peers from across the country, and more importantly, the chance to show the world that with science and technology (almost) NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE.
What is your favorite invention of the last 100 years, and why?
Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats, also known as CRISPR Cas-9. CRISPR is a genetic engineering technique in which the genomes of living organisms can be modified to efficiently edit DNA sequences. With this recent technology, we can understand and tinker with nature, perform miracles, not to mention saving billions of lives.
In 15 years I hope to be...
a scientist and researcher in Biomedicine and climate change. I will continue improving my products and eventually deploy them across the world. I also intend to do extensive study and research in gene editing, immune modulation, and stem cell transplants with the goal of developing cures for diseases like AIDS and Leukemia. Additionally, I would like to research greenhouse effects and how to combat them to minimize the spread of detrimental climate change.
"Some people say to look out to the sky or the stars for answers, but next time, try shifting your gaze to what you see in front of you; like the people, the world, or the very things that make up you. And you can find billions more answers if only you question."
